Destroy Rock City, some dessert for your table

Lee Misenheimer,  better known as Destroy Rock City, has been not noticed in the internet space, but recently he flashed up in the global network, as if showing that he hadn't put down his hand, armed with a pencil. After just a couple of sketches in Flickr rang out in various corners, he was loved by the world‘s Internet users, including us.

However, firstly I suggest you to take a look at previous the author‘s works, which, strangely enough, haven‘t been presented in this webpage yet. So L. Misenheimer is an arrant traditional drawer, always painting his works with a simple pencil or pen on paper first of all. Clearly, this is not something extraordinary, but this quite straightforward approach to an illustration gives a distinctive style to the author‘s works. It should be noted that some Destroy Rock City‘s attempts to digitalize his works with appropriate programs ruins the author‘s uniqueness and places the works into the "bottomless box“ of today‘s pop illustrators.

I personally enjoy these entirely colorless L.Misenheimer‘s draft pages, inscribed in black and white with a pen or a pencil, and, luckily for me, as a true illustrator, he has collected a great deal of them. Therefore, some works, enhanced with warm colors, look like a dessert in the illustrator‘s portfolio.

Motives and drawing style immensely reminds me of sometime in the childhood seen illustrations of tales, interestingly, all of them were pieces of soviet illustrators, which absolutely does not coincide with New York‘s spirit and its drawing schools. Quite common heroes – vague deities with sorely human mimics, sometimes resembling ancient Chinese pagodas‘ decorations. Some penetrate symbols of various natural phenomena in the author‘s works. Anyhow, I must admit that with his illustrations, L.Misenheimer managed to get closer to more than one or two admirers. Distinct style and the naturalness of the works have attracted loyal appreciators from all over the world, who anxiously await new pieces of work by the author.

That is why the new and unexpected Destroy Rock City‘s emergence received a warm greeting. A number of people, who rediscovered the unseeable illustrator, were grateful for him still creating, as rumour had it, that he had abandoned the surface of the Earth and is not coming down.

His new scetches remind me the film „Where The Wild Things Are“. Maybe L. M. seriously has something in common with the characters of the movie? I need to do some research!

It would be interesting to know your opinion, dear "Art Pit" readers. Maybe his artworks generates any associations to you?
