Procession
Written by Lorna Barnshaw
What is about to commence is a series of beautiful and fascinating works by the artist couple Robert and Shana Parkeharrison. They have been a huge inspiration to me, illustrating the wonders of film photography and creative development, so today I wish to share them with you.
Turning to Spring
The artists create works in a response to science and technologies failed promises to ‘fix’ the world and its constant problems, they highlight the suffering relationship between humans, technology and nature. They create these beautiful photographs that appear real yet impossible. It’s a faux reality that makes us question our relationship with the world.
The Sower
The photographs are unquestionably both exquisite and poetic, but the process behind each image is captivating in its self. Prior to 2005 all works were created without the use of Adobe Photoshop, using sets, props and paper negatives, manually collaging a series of images until the composition is painted on the final photograph using layers and layers of washes. The results are sublime dreamlike visuals.
Wound
After the Architect’s Brother series their new works combine the use of both analogue and digital images in addition to computer editing software. Robert and Shana continue to produce beautiful thought provoking works and are always working on something new, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
